I don’t like to gift candy to my toddler for every holiday. Not only does it not get eaten, but it’s not the best for their sugar (trust me, they still enjoy plenty). So, starting with my first, we started the tradition of doing DIY Valentine’s Day baskets – and one of the items they get is one of these cute Valentine’s Day board books for toddlers.
These books are the perfect little add-in and alternatives to chocolate hearts for your toddler! And, with so many options, you can find one that matches their interests and keeps it budget-friendly.
Here are some of the cutest Valentine’s Day board books that I could find for toddlers that I’m sure yours will love too!
Cute Valentine’s Day Board Books for Toddlers to Gift This Year
You might be wondering why I picked a board book (or what a board book even is) and it’s because they’re much more durable than the traditional paper books for kids. They’re printed on durable paperboard, including the cover, inner pages, and the end.
This means that sticky fingerprints can be wiped off with a baby wipe or wet paper towel, they don’t tear nearly as easily, and they’re not as susceptible to spilled juice or drinks (although I recommend keeping those accidents to a minimum, they’re not invincible).
I tend to gift board books year-round, but they’re exactly what you need for your own alternative Valentine’s activities or gifts for kids and toddlers under five years old.
But, let’s get into it! Here are my favorite cute Valentine’s Day board books for toddlers that you can gift this year:
#1. I Wheelie Love You by Hannah Eliot

Written by Hannah Eliot and illustrated by Denise Holmes, I Wheelie Love You is the perfect board book for any toddler who loves vehicles, trucks, and tractors.
There’s no huge learning or lesson overtones, it’s just a short and simple Valentine’s book for your little one to enjoy.
#2. What Is Love, Biscuit? by Alyssa Satin Capucilli

What Is Love, Biscuit? is a Valentine’s Day board book written by Alyssa Satin Capucilli and illustrated by Pat Schories. This is a great option for a parent looking to teach more about what love is to their toddler.
The book is about spending time with family, friends, and a little puppy named Biscuit while learning about love, sharing, and helping.
#3. Tiny T. Rex and the Perfect Valentine by Jonathan Stutzman

This is one of my absolute favorites and is the board book I got my eldest toddler! Tiny T. Rex and the Perfect Valentine written by Jonathan Stutzman and illustrated by Jay Fleck is one of the many Tiny T. Rex books available.
It’s perfect for dinosaur lovers – and they’ll learn a quick lesson too! This book is about showing the ones you love how much you appreciate them and conquering the idea of ‘perfection’ in showing love.
#4. I Love You Like No Otter by Rose Rossner

A funny and sweet Valentine’s Day board book for toddlers, I Love You Like No Otter by Rose Rossner illustrated by Sydney Hanson is a great alternative to the usual pink and red-themed books and gifts.
This book combines the warm message of love with a family of otters, specifically the connection between mama otter and baby otter (making this one a perfect baby shower gift for a new mom too).
#5. Ollie’s Valentine by Olivier Dunrea

A board book in the Gossie & Friends Series, Ollie’s Valentine by Olivier Dunrea is a super cute Valentine’s Day board book for toddlers that your little one – and you – are sure to love.
The book covers Ollie, who is looking for a Valentine. All of his friends have Valentine’s already, and he’s wondering who his is – which leads him to his own special Valentine.
#6. I Love You Every Day by Cottage Door Press

If you’re looking for something a little more interactive for you both, I Love You Everyday by Cottage Door Press is just right for you! Rather than a regular board book, this is a finger puppet book that allows you to add a 3D element that your toddler is sure to love.
I highly recommend this one if you have a younger toddler or your toddler doesn’t enjoy reading as much. This will help them stay entertained and involved.
#7. Llama Llama I Love You by Anna Dewdney

A cute Valentine’s Day board book that I picked for my own little girl for her Valentine’s Day basket, Llama Llama I Love You by Anna Dewdney is an adorable story showing young children sweet ways to express their love.
Short and simple, it’s the perfect book to gift your toddler this year – and introduce them to a book series they’ll love.
#8. Maze Book: Follow My Heart by Roger Priddy

Even if your little one isn’t a reader, there are board books that can keep them interested! The Follow My Heart by Roger Priddy finger maze book is a great example of how to keep it interactive.
Follow the Valentine Bear on her journey to match animals with their perfect pair! You’ll be able to trace the maze thanks to groves in the pages too.
#9. I Love You, Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton

Finally, I couldn’t skip over I Love You, Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton! It’s a sweet and simple board book for Valentine’s Day that shows the unwavering love from a mom to her little one.
This is a very affectionate and heartfelt board book that your toddler will appreciate and enjoy in their Valentine’s Day basket!
